Procurement of raw materials

We’ll take care of your chemical supplies
As a full-service provider, we do more than just manufacture your chemical products. If you wish, we can also take care of sourcing all the necessary raw materials – including the entire logistics process!
Once we have provided you with comprehensive advice and have reviewed and discussed your production processes and formulations together, we will coordinate and schedule the procurement of all necessary raw materials. You can focus entirely on your core business with complete peace of mind, whilst our experienced team takes care of the details: we ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations and manage communication with suppliers – from quotation preparation and delivery through to payment – and store your raw materials securely and in line with your requirements until they are used in our production process. We always keep a stock of raw materials in our warehouse that is appropriate for the volume of each order. This not only saves you storage space and costs, but also allows you to respond more flexibly and quickly to varying demands without tying up your own capital.
And best of all: we don’t just do this for you, but for all UCM customers. The advantage of this is that we can secure significantly better terms, allowing you to benefit from economies of scale even if you only require small quantities yourself.
We have maintained partnerships with some of our suppliers for many years. This guarantees both us and you high quality, reliable delivery and the best prices. Together with the synergy effects mentioned earlier, these factors minimise the reasonable mark-up on raw material prices that we charge to cover the costs associated with sourcing raw materials.

Supply of raw materials
Should Ursa-Chemie be unable to source your raw materials, or should you prefer not to use our sourcing service, you may also supply the raw materials yourself. This means that you order the raw materials yourself as required, whilst Ursa-Chemie takes care of storage and handling. This allows us to supply speciality chemicals in small quantities or in specialised packaging. We charge a small fee for this service, which is included in the product price. Particularly in the case of very expensive raw materials, this can be more cost-effective than purchasing through UCM. However, in addition to the advantages mentioned, this service also has a few disadvantages:

No use is made of remaining quantities; these are returned or dispatched to the customer along with the goods if there are no follow-up orders.
What might that look like in practice?
Scenario 1
You entrust the procurement of raw materials and packaging entirely to Ursa-Chemie. When you need your chemical product, simply place an order with us. The advantage for you is that you do not need to run your own chemical warehouse. Furthermore, as production is tailored to demand, no storage capacity is required for the finished products – a cost saving for both you and us.
Scenario 2
You manufacture a product in your own production facilities, but due to the importance of the product, you require a ‘backup supplier’. Therefore, subject to the relevant contractual arrangements, approximately 30% of your requirements are always manufactured by Ursa-Chemie alongside your in-house production. We always stock sufficient raw materials to ensure that, in the event of a bottleneck, 100% of your requirements can be manufactured and delivered at any time. This enables you to ensure an uninterrupted supply to the market, independent of your own operations, which could be disrupted by technical failures or staff strikes.
Raw material storage in the chemical industry
Essentially, we are primarily a manufacturer, but raw material storage is an integral part of our operations. We hold basic chemicals in stock as standard, whereas specialised and exclusive raw materials are procured on an order-by-order basis, held in temporary storage and dispatched according to subsequent orders – all of which is carried out on a just-in-time basis.
Although Ursa Chemie is not a traditional warehousing provider – instead, we primarily supply and temporarily store raw materials to facilitate production – we also offer contract-based raw material storage where required. This storage service is included in our production and processing services and is open to additional agreements regarding minimum stock levels and the temporary storage of finished products.

What requirements must be met for the storage of raw materials?
A prerequisite for raw material storage is that the product and customer must be set up in our system, and that there must be a binding order or a series of orders.
What types of raw materials can be stored with us?
From T, C and F-class hazardous substances, through goods in canisters, sacks, big bags, drums, IBCs and tanks, right down to small containers such as tins or bottles (speciality chemicals), we can store all kinds of chemical raw materials.
How much can we store?
We currently hold around 2,000 different raw materials in stock. We store raw materials across 3,000 pallet spaces, tailored to our customers’ needs.
